Just finished watching this on Netflix. I was so surprised at how corrupt the video game world is. Billy Mitchell is the perfect bad guy and Steve Wiebe is the perfect underdog. I don’t think I have seen a documentary so compelling, you should see this if you haven’t. Even if you don’t like video games, you will enjoy it.

Andrew forced me to watch this a couple of weeks ago and I’m glad he did. I got really wrapped up in the rivalry. I want to be best friends with Steve Wiebe.

Speaking for myself, and myself only, it is my personal belief that allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly would be the right thing to do.

No matter how I look at this issue, I cannot escape being troubled by the fact that we have in place a policy which forces young men and women to lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens. For me, personally, it comes down to integrity, theirs as individuals and ours as an institution.

ADMIRAL MICHAEL MULLEN, chairman, Joints Chiefs of Staff (here)

I’ve seen clips from this Senate hearing several times over the past two days and I can’t get over how thoughtful, honest and frankly, right on the money, this statement was from the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Admiral Mullen. I wish I could say the same for the Senators’ responses.

We’ve got to close the gap between rhetoric and the reality.

President Obama

If you happen to have a spare 85 mins, this is pretty impressive.

“Flash AND HTML5”
I was just reading quotes from this guy in the actual newspaper while on the subway. I’m pretty sure this picture was taken during the interview.
The virtual newspaper article is here.

Yay! Congrats Andrew! Also quoted here.

The populists have an Us versus Them mentality. If they continue their random attacks on enterprise and capital, they will only increase the pervasive feeling of uncertainty, which is now the single biggest factor in holding back investment, job creation and growth. They will end up discrediting good policies (the Obama bank reforms are quite sensible) because they will persuade the country that the government is in the hands of reckless Huey Longs.

They will have traded dynamic optimism, which always wins, for combative divisiveness, which always loses.

The World’s Most Important 6 Second Drum Beat

This fascinating, brilliant 20-minute video narrates the history of the “Amen Break,” a six-second drum sample from the b-side of a chart-topping single from 1969. This sample was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music, and became the basis for drum-and-bass and jungle music — a six-second clip that spawned several entire subcultures. Nate Harrison’s 2004 video is a meditation on the ownership of culture, the nature of art and creativity, and the history of a remarkable music clip.

This video is well worth the 18 minutes.

This is really interesting. If you have the time, definitely worth watching.
